Today (9/26/2021), the study group completed its review of Chapter 18 of Srimad Bhagvad Gita. We focused on how we can perform daily functions (action, doership, seeking happiness etc) with a tamasic, rajasic, or sattvic attitude. We used the fictional scenario of Arjun, who was hurt because his teacher didn't recognize his hard work in class, as a springboard to discuss the difference between karma and Karma Yoga. The karma equation is that the results I receive should match my effort. The Karma Yoga equation is that the effort I put forth should match my debt to the universe. With maturity, I recognize this debt to be enormous. I can repay this debt only if put forth my best effort without regard for the result. We also chanted and discussed Lord Krishna's final teaching (18.66) and the final verse of Gita (18.78).
